Every edge is stitched by hand in dark red zigzag thread.On it sits a paper collage portrait of an African woman. A golden floral halo frames her head. A blue butterfly rests at one shoulder. A coral-pink bird sits at the other. Pink and cream anemones open beside her. Her collar is printed in red and white, with flowers at the neck.Small glass beads edge the top of the panel. Red, gold, blue, green, orange. A turquoise bead drops on a gold pin at the centre.Below, a cluster of yellow flowers spreads wide. Layered fabric petals, orange centres. Light as air. They give the piece its colour and its scale, not its weight.It measures 12.5 cm tall and 10.5 cm wide. Large and bright, yet easy to wear. It fastens with a pin and a secure clasp, so it stays where you put it.Pin it to a plain coat, a linen shirt, a canvas bag, a dark knit. Let it be the whole look. One of a kind.
